Matt
D'Amico makes the character (Bosola) slimy and sympathetic at the same time,
always a difficult trick, and his attack of regret at the end
works nicely. Renée Bucciarelli's duchess is
quietly dignified, and Jon Fordham makes a suitably cold
cardinal. Andrew Oswald rants enthusiastically as
Ferdinand. He and Mr. Fordham have some effective scenes
together, presenting two faces of evil: Ferdinand is road
rage; the cardinal, the type who might quietly compile an
enemies list.

Renée Bucciarelli
plays the title role . . . she is superb - saucy and
sensitive, valiant and vulnerable. Jemma Alix Levy
directs the more than capable cast. She makes the most
of a lavish wardrobe (Lea Umberger is costume designer) and
minimal scenery and keeps the action flowing. The
Cardinal (Jon Fordham) and Ferdinand (Andrew Oswald) do a
brilliant job establishing each his own distinct brand of
iniquity so that in the end we may feel a bit sorry for
Oswald, but we sincerely hope Fordham will burn in hell.
Matt D'Amico gives
a multi-layered and thoughtful performance as Bosola. In
supporting roles, Vicki Hirsch is especially notable as
Cariola and Shuana Miles gives a nuanced yet bawdy performance
as Julia, the whore with a heart.
